KATHMANDU: The International Conference Center with capacity to accommodate 3,000 people, which is under construction at the moment, has achieved 70 percent work progress till date.
The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Ministry of Urban Development has been working on the construction of the conference center located in Godavari Municipality – 3.
The department and the KC-Samanantar JV had signed a contract in November last year to start the construction works from November 7, said Mahesh Bhatta, project manager of the joint venture.
Bhatta revealed that they had been assigned to complete the construction of the international conference center by April. “However, there has been delay because it took us two months just to cut down the trees to clear the site and
moreover, we there were heavy rains which affected construction work,” he said.
The construction work has been further affected due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the country and only 80 people are working on the site, said Bhatta. “Before the spread of the coronavirus we had 200 workers involved in the construction activities,” he mentioned.
Pawan Mainali, an engineer associated with the joint venture, said that as per the contract, the construction cost of the conference center has been set at Rs 658.165 million.
The remaining works include construction of a compound wall, plastering, coloring, installation of AC and other structures.
Once completed, the center will be able to host different national and international level meetings and conferences.
