Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) has demanded action against those travel agencies or airline companies that have been charging more than the prescribed fare from workers who have been returning home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the association, it has sought action against such agencies and airline companies stating that the increasing number of complaints of workers being charged exorbitant travel fares being received from across the country has not been addressed yet.
Stating that the number of laborers returning from abroad is increasing, the association also demanded to increase the number of flights flight along with reducing the fares for the laborers whose names are included in the lists of the respective Nepali embassies and missions.
Due to the coronavirus, flights were affected for months and the workers were forced to return to Nepal after their contracts expired. Because of this, tickets were not easily available that led to them to overstay their visas. Some workers who had bought tickets could not come back to Nepal as they could not afford to pay for their overstay, the association said. It has requested the government to take necessary steps to resolve this problem.
