KATHMANDU: A total of 80,016 Nepali nationals who were stranded abroad due to the inconvenient situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic have returned home so far.
According to the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), the aforementioned number of citizens returned from 32 countries till Saturday.
The highest number of returnees is from the United Arab Emirates with the figure standing at 23,237 and the lowest is five from Sri Lanka. Most of the Nepalis who have returned had gone abroad for employment purposes. Others who returned home had gone for educational purposes, training programs, medical treatments and family reunions.
According to the CCMC, 12,381 Nepalis returned home from Saudi Arabia, 11,651 from Malaysia, 11,150 from Qatar, 8,478 from Kuwait and 1,754 from Japan.
Similarly, 1,447 Nepalis returned from South Korea, 1,325 from Oman, 1,274 from Bahrain and 1,091 from Australia.
Meanwhile, 936 citizens came back home from Turkey, 888 from Bangladesh, 858 from Maldives, 555 from Singapore and 430 from the United States.
Likewise, 333 people returned from China and 317 from Jordan.
