Airlines begin ticket bookings, govt yet to finalize destinations

KATHMANDU: Domestic airline companies have started booking tickets after the government announced it would allow flights to resume operations from September 21.

Considering the public’s demand to travel during the festive season the government has allowed the resumption of long-distance vehicles and domestic flights from September 21. While the operators of long-distance vehicles are yet to take any decision regarding opening bookings for the festive season domestic airline companies have called for bookings.

Issuing a notice today, Yeti Airlines announced that it had opened ticket bookings for interested passengers. Similarly, bookings for Tara Air have also started from today. Meanwhile, Buddha Air has also issued a notice for the public that it will open its bookings soon and urged potential passengers to stay updated for the latest announcements as the government is yet to make a decision on the destinations that domestic flights can be operated to.

Yeti Airlines has mentioned that passengers can make bookings for the destinations that were selected earlier for flight operations. Similarly, Shree Airlines is also preparing to open bookings from Wednesday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has stated that a meeting with airline operators will be arranged soon regarding flight operation modality. Earlier Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai had announced that domestic flights will be resumed in less-affected destinations.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has called a meeting with Nepal Transportation Workers Association, All Nepal Workers Association and Free Nepal Transportation Workers Union to discuss on the modality of operating long-distance vehicles. According to Saroj Sitaula, general secretary of FNNTE, the government is yet to provide any modality for long-distance vehicle operation. Thus, bookings will be opened only after finalizing the operation modality.
