KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) today issued an interim order against the government’s decision to reopen land plotting (allotment).
A single bench of justice Sushma Lata Mathema issued an order to this effect in response to a writ petition filed by Santosh Bhandari and summoned the writ petitioner and the defendant (government).
Earlier on September 7, the government had lifted the ban on land plotting that had been in place for the past three years. Gopal Dahil, then Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLMCPA), had imposed a ban on allotment of land to prevent the subdivision of agricultural land on August 10, 2017.
However, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Aryal, had taken a policy decision to lift all types of bans on land plotting by lifting the previous decision.
