MoCTCA asks NAC to purchase new aircraft for domestic sector

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation ((MoCTCA) has directed Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to begin the process to purchase new aircraft for the domestic sector as soon as possible.

In a meeting held at MoCTCA today, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai directed NAC to prepare a plan and proceed with the aircraft procurement procedure. The meeting was attended by Executive Chairman of NAC, Sushil Ghimire, along with other department heads of the national flag carrier.

After having grounded all the six Chinese aircraft, NAC now has only two Twin Otter aircraft that are not sufficient to cope with the market demand of the domestic sector.

Moreover, the corporation has to focus more on rural areas also thus it is important to bring aircraft at the earliest, reads a press statement issued today.

In a new development, Minister Bhattarai has also directed NAC officials to begin preparations to operate NAC under public-private partnership model.
