Govt terminates contract with two contractors that failed to import fertilizers

KATHMANDU: The government today scrapped the contract with two firms that failed to import fertilizers on time.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) today scrapped the fertilizer supplying contract with Shailung Enterprises and Hobiko Multiple Company for not importing and distributing fertilizers on time.

Similarly, the government also seized the collateral deposited by both the companies that have had received a contract from Agriculture Inputs Company ltd (AICL).

“Though we had called for a global tender we thought that Nepali companies would work more efficiently than companies from other nations. However, the result has been contrary to the ministry’s plan and expectation,” said Hari Bdr KC, spokesperson for Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD).

As per him, the contractors submitted an application on Friday requesting MoALDto extend the deadline to import fertilizers. Apparently, the deadline will be terminated today. However, Spokesperson KC has stated that now there is no chance of extending the deadline. Thus, the ministry is preparing to take action against both the companies for failing to bring fertilizers.

“We thought that Nepali companies would be more responsible. However, it seems like they are not experienced in importing fertilizers,” he said, adding, “They tried to clarify that the delay in import was due to various reasons involved in the procedure but the clarification was not convincing enough.”

Prior to this, when MoALD had sought clarification from AICL regarding the delay in import of fertilizers, AICL had said that the process is ongoing. However, the contractor companies have not even submitted any documents related to order placement or billing or booking.
