Three firms bid for Lot-1 works of 140-MW Tanahu hydel

KATHMANDU: Three companies have shown interest in the works under the Lot-1 package of the Tanahu Hydropower Project, which is under construction in Rishing Rural Municipality, Jhaputar of Tanahu district.

In the tender announced by the project for the first package of the hydropower project, three firms have submitted their bid documents. Meanwhile, these bid documents have been forwarded to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for approval following completion of their technical evaluation, as per the project.

Project officials informed that Larsen and Toubro of India, China Gezhouba Group Company Limited (CGGCL) and a joint venture of Kalika Construction and a Vietnamese firm had submitted bid documents for works related to Package 1 of the hydropower project.

The bid documents were recently forwarded to ADB, one of the financers of the project. The total cost of the project is estimated at $506 million, of which the ADB will provide $150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency will contribute $184 million, European Investment Bank will give $85 million and Nepal Electricity Authority will chip in $87 million.

It was the second time that the project had announced a tender notice for its Lot-1 works. The ADB had terminated the first tender notice citing ineligibility of the bidders.

The company selected for Lot-1 works must construct a 140-meter concrete and coffer dam, develop diversion tunnels to divert the river and complete head works.

The project has already awarded the contract for works of Lot-2 to a Chinese contractor,Sinohydro. Works related to Lot-2 of the project basically include building a power house and main tunnel and other hydromechanical and electromechanical works.
